Romanian fencer Amalia Tataran won the silver medal on Sunday in the individual foil event of the Under 23 European Fencing Championship in Minsk (Belarus), while Iulian Teodosiu won the bronze in the saber event.
Amalia Tataran (CS Dinamo) was defeated by Polish Martyna Swatowska by 15-11. In the first round, the Romanian beat Vikte Azukaite (Lithuania) by 15-13, in the second round defeated Nelli Ladanyi (Hungary) by 15-13, in the eighths defeated the Russian Violetta Hrapina by 15-4, in the quarters surpassed the Polish Kamila Pytka, by 15-10, and in the semifinals she eliminated Vanessa Riedmueller (Germany) with 15-12.
Greta Veres (CSA Steaua) ranked 14th, Bianca Benea (CSM Oradea) took the 30th place, and Ramona Calcan (CSA Steaua) finished on the 51st place.
In the saber event, Teodosiu (CS Dinamo) disposed in the second round of the Polish Mikolaj Grzegorek, by 15-4, in the eights he imposed himself against the Italian Francesco Bonsanto, by 15-9, in the quarters he defeated Federico Riccardi (Italy), with 15-8, but in the semifinals he was defeated by another Italian, Francesco D'Armiento, with 15-14.
Madalin Bucur (CS Dinamo), defeated in the quarters event by Turkish Enver Yildirim with 15-8, finished on the 8th place, Cristian Bituca (CS Dinamo) ranked 10th and Sorin Eftimie (CS Dinamo), 32nd.
Romania participates in the competition with 17 athletes, and on Monday, the events for the saber men's teams, foil women's teams and epee men's teams will take place.
