A National Anticorruption Directorate (DNA)'s prosecutor on Tuesday demanded the justices with the High Court of Cassation and Justice (ICCJ, Supreme Court - ed. n.) the sentencing of former deputy Sebastian Ghita to the maximum prison term in the criminal case in which the former MP is charged with bribing the former Mayor of Ploiesti City, Iulian Badescu.
The prosecutor asked for the defendant to be sentenced for bribe giving, incitement to abuse of office and money laundering. The money laundering is the most grave charge that is providing a maximum 10-year imprisonment according to the Law 656/2002. The court will announce its sentence in this case on 25 September.
Moreover, the prosecutor demanded a maximum jail term for Iulian Badescu, too, who is charged with taking bribe and abuse of office with the consequence to receiving ill-gotten gains for other. In addition, the DNA official asked the magistrates to compel the two culprits to jointly pay RON 1.5 million to the Ploiesti City Hall, alongside with the seizure of RON 1.1 million from Ghita and over RON 900,000 from Badescu.
