The US infantry troops of the Vanguard Battalion, 18th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Mechanized Brigade, 1st "Big Red" Division, on Monday organized a ceremony at the Mihail Kogalniceanu Air Base to celebrate their arrival in Romania for a rotating cycle of training and instruction alongside the Romanian troops, as part of the Operation Atlantic Resolve.

The ceremony, organized and carried out together with the Romanian Land Troops, started with the arrival of the Romanian and US army officials, the presentation of the battle flags and playing of the national anthems of Romania and the USA and the anthem of the US Land Troops and also with a salute of the commander of the US infantrymen deployed to the air bases, Colonel Peter J Moon.

In his speech delivered on this occasion, Lieutenant Colonel Moon said that the 250 infantrymen of the Vanguard Battalion, who started to arrive one week ago, from Poland, with their equipment, to the Mihail Kogalniceanu Air Base, are coming to Romania to train and demonstrate their training skills, alongside their Romanian comrades, during a series of drills and bilateral applications, aimed at increasing the degree of inter-operability.

The 1st Vanguard Battalion is a military force with joint weapons that will operate during its stay at the Mihail Kogalniceanu Base, as part of the Atlantic Resolve, a military operation that includes all Europe, Colonel Peter J Moon said. He went on to say that Atlantic Resolve is meant to prove the continuous commitment and dedication of the US to security, through a series of actions meant to defend the NATO partners, in the context of Russia's intervention in Ukraine.
