The BRUA pipeline will not cross Hungary anymore, this country's gas operator FGSZ having proposed for the gas volume coming from Romania to be distributed from Hungary to Slovakia, Ukraine, Croatia or Serbia, the Romanian gas operator Transgaz officials said on Monday in a release sent to the Bucharest Stock Exchange (BVB).

Transgaz representatives added that on Romania's territory, the plans regarding this project stay unchanged.

The Romanian gas carrier mentions in the release that on 18 July 2017, it received a letter from the Hungarian gas carrier - the FGSZ company - referring to the committed open season process planned to unfold for the allocation of capacities specific to the Romania-Hungary-Austria natural gas transport corridor.

"Through this letter, we were informed that the FGSZ cannot unfold the planned procedure due to the lack of the necessary approval from the company's Supervisory Council, motivated by economic efficiency issues. The Hungarian side proposed in exchange to unfold the committed open season process for only the RO-HU interconnection point, following that the 4.4 billion cubic metres/year gas volume that would come from Romania to be distributed from Hungary to Slovakia, Ukraine, Croatia or Serbia. In parallel, the FGSZ would continue talks with the Austrian gas operator (Gas Connect) to further identify possibilities of physical transport from Hungary to Austria," the Transgaz officials said.
