Green car sales (hybrid and one hundred-percent electric) reached 1,237 units in the first seven months of the year, having almost tripled (+ 210.48 pct) as compared to the same period of 2016, according to statistics with the Association of Automobile Manufacturers and Importers (APIA), consulted by Agerpres.
Between January and July 2017, Y-o-Y, the share of "green" cars in total sales was 1.8 pct locally and sales of electric cars increased by about 180 pct, while hybrid car sales recorded an increase of over 215 pct. In July, 291 electric and hybrid cars were sold, up 9.81 pct, as compared to the previous month, when 265 cars were sold.
Topping the ranking of the most traded one hundred-percent electric vehicle brands in the first seven months of the year is BMW with 46 units, followed by Mercedes-Benz (40 units), Renault (18), Audi, Mitsubishi and Volkswagen (nine units each) and Porsche (5). At the same time, most hybrid cars sold in Romania from January to June 2017 were Toyotas (1,019 units), followed by Lexi (88 units), Kias (9), Hyundai (3) and Mercedes-Benz (2). Official statistics show that last year, the number of new hybrid and electric cars sold in Romania was 1,183 units, up 138 pct from 2015, of which 167 are one hundred-percent electric vehicles.
A new edition of the Car Scrappage Plus Programme, launched on May 10, 2017, for the purchase of environmentally-friendly cars, is currently underway. Under it, the value of one eco-ticket for those who want to buy a new one hundred-percent electric vehicle is 10,000 euro, and 4,500 euro for the plug-in hybrids.
