The Romanian Paralympic medallists will receive equal prizes as the Romanian Rio 2016 Olympic medallists for equal performance.
The Government on Wednesday passed new values for prizes to medal winning athletes, amending sports legislation to eliminate discriminations and inequities between special-needs athletes and able-bodied athletes.
The Government sys in a press statement that it amended under an emergency ordinance the legislation on physical education and sports with the main aim to eliminate financial discriminations - prizes, merit bonuses and annuities - awarded to special-need athletes and able-bodied athletes.
The ordinance clarifies the computation of annuities to allow for the resizing of those currently paid.
"There will be no cuts in the currently paid annuities, because they are a right won by athletes," reads the statement.
Also on Wednesday, the Government passed a decision to supplement athletic financial regulations, updating the size of sports spending, increasing them to a level that matches the current costs and needs.
"The amounts set forth are the caps on the allocations of athletic organisations, provided they have the necessary budget. The increase in the caps does not necessarily entail a rise in the budgets of the athletic organisations, but it gives them a possibility to prioritise and increase spending efficiency to match their objectives and budgets," the Government says.
As far as prizes for special result in the main international competitions - the Olympic Games, the Paralympic Games, word championships and European championships - are concerned, fixed amounts have been set in place to reflect the importance and calibre of each competition. agerpres.
