Justice Ministry will submit on Thursday documents requested by DNA

The Justice Ministry (MJ) will submit on Thursday the documents requested by the National Anticorruption Directorate (DNA) on drawing up and issuing the Government Emergency Ordinance (GEO) on amending the Criminal Code and draft law on pardoning some sentences, MJ Spokesperson Cristina Lita specified for agerpres.

The MJ representative mentioned that the texts of the normative acts will be submitted also to the European Commission if they are requested. "The Minister of Justice is willing to participate inclusively in the European Parliament if invited," she said.

The Justice Ministry received on Wednesday a request from the DNA to send the original of all the documents related to the drafting and issuing of the Emergency Ordinance on the amendment of the Criminal Codes, as well the draft law on pardon.

The MJ mentioned that, through the same address, the DNA requested submitting the documents - resulted following the inter-institutional and internal correspondence - on paper or by e-mail, with regard to the two mentioned normative acts, as well specifying the surname, name, and identification data in the case of persons who participated in the drafting, preparation and / or approval of the two drafts.

According to the DNA address, the documents were requested in the interest of the conducted criminal investigation in a case the National Anticorruption Directorate is dealing with.

"Regarding this demarche, the Justice Ministry underscores the fact that the mentioned legislative amendment was and is assumed by the MJ leadership in the exercise of statutory and legal duties. We consider that the DNA launching an investigation on the manner of drawing up an Emergency Ordinance is a serious interference in the work of the executive authority and an unprecedented damage to the constitutional balance of powers," the MJ specified.

The MJ press release comes after Prosecutor General Augustin Lazar stated on Tuesday morning that the DNA is investigating a case in connection with the adoption of the Emergency Ordinance on amending the Criminal Code and Criminal Procedure Code.
