Hungarian Democratic Union of Romania (UDMR) Chairman Kelemen Hunor met on Friday with Hungarian Foreign Minister Szijjarto Peter, saying it is "unacceptable" that in Romania some of the laws in force and that directly affect the fate of the Hungarian community are not applied,

"We pointed out in the dialogue that the rights of the Hungarian community about which we have often expressed concern, must be on the agenda of improving the Romanian-Hungarian relations.

We consider it unacceptable that, in Romania, some of the laws in force are not implemented and these directly affect the fate of the Hungarian community," said UDMR chairman, recalling, for example, the education law, the legislative provisions on the right to use the native language and bilingual inscriptions respectively.

According to the release, in addition to complying with legal norms, the two officials also talked about extending the community's rights.

"UDMR wants to draw attention also to the fact that this is a European practice, necessary to the Hungarians' safety on their birth land," said Kelemen.

He voiced his confidence that there will be real progress in terms of the Romanian-Hungarian relations.

UDMR chairman stressed the need for improving the current state of the Romanian-Hungarian relations.

"I asked Prime Minister Dacian Ciolos as early as his interim period, to consider the normalization of the Romanian-Hungarian relations. And that is why I am glad about Szijjarto Peter's visit today," Kelemen Hunor added. AGERPRES
