Gymnast Larisa Iordache, the Romanian flag bearer at the opening ceremony of the 29th Taipei (Taiwan) Summer Universiade, qualified on Monday in four separate finals, the all-around, the uneven bars, the balance beam and the floor events. Iordache came second in the all-around singles' event standings, with 55,700 points, overtaken by Elisabeth Black (Canada), with 56,050 points.
Larisa Iordache had the highest score in the uneven bars, 14,150 points, ahead of Russian Daria Spiridonova, 13,900 points, was the second on the floor, 13,650 points, after Russian Daria Elizarova, 13,850 points, and the third on the beam ,13,450 points, after Black, 14,400, and Russian Evgenia Shelgunova, 13,500. Iordache did not compete in the vaulting event.
Romania is participating with a delegation of 121 people, of which 91 athletes, in the 29th edition of the Summer Universiade held in Taipei (Taiwan) from August 19 to 30. The Romanian athletes will compete at athletics, weightlifting, table tennis, men's volleyball, swimming, the springboard event, men's basketball, men's polo, artistic gymnastics, fencing and judo. Romania ranked 29th in the nations' ranking at the 2015 Summer Universiade in Gwangju (South Korea), winning 1 gold medal, 3 silver and 3 bronze.
