As many as 52 persons, of whom 13 children in an overcrowded inflatable boat risking to sink in the Aegean Sea were rescued by the Romanian border police patrolling on the Internal Affairs Ministry boat MAI 1102 of the Coast Guard, while on a FRONTEX mission within the "EPN POSEIDON SEA" Joint Maritime Operation, on Tuesday informs the Border Police General Inspectorate (IGPF) in a release sent to agerpres.

The 52 rescued people - 17 men, 22 women and 13 children - who said they were from Syria, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia and Palestine, were transported safely to the port of the Chios Island, being handed over to the Greek authorities for the specific procedures.

Ever since the beginning of their mission in Greece (January 2017), alongside the crews of the other boats belonging to the European Union's Member States deployed by the FRONTEX Agency to Greece within the "EPN POSEIDON SEA" Joint Operation, the Romanian border police navigating on the Coast Guard boat have rescued as many as 676 persons who were in danger of drowning, aboard some small, overcrowded boats in the Greek territorial waters, the source adds.
