Over 50pct decrease of second hand cars registrations in January 2017 (DRPCIV)

The number of second hand cars registered in the first month of 2017 is 7,708 units, a significant decrease of 53.20pct compared to the same period in 2016, when 16,471 units were registered, shows the statistic of the Directorate for Driving Licenses and Vehicle Registration (DRPCIV), consulted by agerpres.

The official data show that, on the margin of this decrease, most of the registered used cars were Volkswagens (2,159 units, -54.85pct compared to January 2016).

The ranking continues with: Opel (991 units, -61.59pct), Bentley (810 units vs none in January 2016), Ford (749 units, -60.91pct), Audi (782 units, -39.89pct), Skoda (374 units, -53.19pct), Mercedes-Benz (320 units, -49.21pct), Renault (271 units, -57.39pct) and Peugeot (146 units, -55.08pct).

On the other hand, the lowest number of registrations of second hand cars, are for Volvo, Chevrolet and Subaru - each with 8 units, Daihatsu, Lexus and Rover (7 each), Lancia (6), Saab (5), Santana (3), SsangYong (2), Cadillac, Chrysler, Dodge, Infiniti, Maserati, MG (each a unit).

According to the statistic of DRPCIV, in what regards the registration of new vehicles, 9,480 units were registered in January 2017, an increase by 14.18pct compared to the same period of the previous year, most of the registrations were recorded for cars, namely 7.059 units.

The official statistic, published recently, shows that the national car fleet in Romania increased, last year, by 6.21pct compared to the previous year, exceeding 7 million vehicles, out of which 1.25 million were registered in Bucharest.

Therefore, of 1.253 million of vehicles that were registered in Bucharest (approximately 18pct of total), just over a million units were cars. In the capital, most of the vehicles, at the end of the previous year, were part of the 6 - 10 years of service category (346,594 units), followed by the older 11 - 15 years (301,648 units) and those with over 20 years of use (195,666 units).

The number of new vehicles (0-2 years old) from Bucharest, at the end of 2016, was of 134,322 units, and 104,068 of them were cars.

At the national level, from the total of 7,010,608 vehicles that run on the national roads at the end of last year, 5.47 million (78pct) were cars, an increase of over 6pct, compared to the end of 2015, when 5.15 million units were registered.

At the end of 2016, on the roads of Romania, 3.036 million vehicles with diesel motorization (of which 2.119 million cars) were in circulation, while 3.586 million vehicles had gasoline engines, of which 3.339 million were cars.
