Prime Minister Dacian Ciolos said that it is very important that party politics be removed from the school level, in the context of the job competitions organized Wednesday for the positions of educational unit director, or deputy director.
"Participating today in the competition for the position of director or deputy director in schools in Romania are 9,000 professors, so 9,000 candidates. You know that I requested the Education Ministry and Mr. Minister has organized in a relatively short time, but, from my point of view very judiciously, this competition, which has not been organized for the position of director, in schools, since 2008. For years we have had temporary appointments, then dismissals and then temporary appointments again. Not only can consistent and efficient management not be insured there, but connections can be made between these appointments and dismissals and (...) certain political actions. It is very important, from my point of view, that party politics be removed from schools. Education needs political support, but it does not need political appointments for school leadership. Professionals are needed there firstly, people who are dedicated to the management of these schools and especially people who have a clear perspective of mandate," said Ciolos at the beginning of the Government session.
The Prime Minister has added that he asked the representatives of other ministries to support this demarche in order to ensure the competition's transparency.
"I hope to see, at the end of this competition, people in these schools' management with clear objectives and who can assume these changes for the better that we expect in pre-universitary education," mentioned Ciolos.
