Senator Traian Basescu of the People's Movement Party (PMP) says the head of the state "knows how to pull things together", given that the Government has been demoted through censure motion and he should give the mandate to the Liberals.
PSD-ALDE [Social Democratic Party-the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats] are going to the President immensely weakened as compared to how they were when Grindeanu's Gov't was invested after the elections. So, they are feeble and Iohannis certainly knows how to pull things together. He took note that the motion barely passed due to the presence of 15 minority MPs and he knows he no longer has in front of him that parliamentary vote force he had when Grindeanu was appointed," stated Traian Basescu on Wednesday night at private TV broadcaster B1TV.
The PMP leader states that PSD and ALDE should switch to being in the opposition and the current Opposition, headed by the Liberals should form the new government.
Asked who might now be able to form the majority in Parliament, Traian Basescu replied: "The Opposition. The mandate must be given to the next in line, vote-wise, to the Liberals and they should try to form a majority. So, in my opinion, President Iohannis has the obligation to pull that out as he has no guarantees that in three months' time, based on Dragnea's whims, we won't be in the same situation as today. These people are inapt to govern."
Traian Basescu specified that so far he has not discussed with the Liberals' leader, Ludovic Orban.
