President Iohannis congratulates Romanian students, teachers on performance at International Physics Olympiad

President Klaus Iohannis has congratulated Romania's students and teachers who participated in the International Physics Olympiads in Indonesia, where the Romanian delegation ranked first in Europe and fifth in the world.

"I am happy every time the performance of Romanian students and teachers is recognised and rewarded internationally. Let me congratulate the five students and teachers in the Romanian delegation at the International Physical Olympiad held in Indonesia on their remarkable results. They brought Romania first in Europe and in the top 5 ranking of countries in the world in Physics, a field of near and dear to my heart. Their exceptional achievements inspire us and are best proof that perseverance, effort and energy in the service of passion make dreams come true," Iohannis wrote on Tuesday in a Facebook post.

Romania ranked first in Europe and fifth in the world at the International Physics Olympiad, with Romanian students winning four gold medals and one silver medal, the Education Ministry (MEN) reported on Monday.

The gold medals went to Anca Dragulescu, Razvan Octavian Radu and Petru Cotrut of the Bucharest International Informatics High School and Andrei Radu, an 11th grader of the Nicolae Balcescu Collegiate High Scool of Braila.

The silver medal went to Sebastian Leontica, an 11th grader of the Petru Rares Collegiate High School of Piatra Neamt.

Team coordinators were Delia Davidescu of the Bucharest International Informatics High School in and Adrian Dafinei, lecturer at the Faculty of Physics of the Bucharest University.

The International Physics Olympiad 2017 took place in Indonesia (Yogyakarta), July 16-24, bringing together 424 competitors from 88 countries.
