Parliamentary parties are invited today to the Cotroceni Presidential Palace for consultations with President Klaus Iohannis over the designation of the future prime minister.

According to the Presidential Administration, on Monday, at 15:00hrs, representatives of the Social Democratic Party (PSD) and the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats (ALDE), together making up the ruling coalition, are expected to consultation; the National Liberal Party (PNL) follows at 16:00hrs, while the Save Romania Union (USR) will be there at 17:00 hrs. The People's Movement Party (PMP) delegation is scheduled for 17:30hrs, and representatives of the Hungarian Democratic Union of Romania (UDMR) for 18:00hrs. The national minority parliamentary group follows at 18:30 hrs.

Each delegation can be made up of five persons at the most.

Romania's future prime minister has to be "an honest person who is not legally embattled" and who is backed by a parliamentary majority, Romania's President Klaus Iohannis said Thursday in Brussels.

Ruling coalition's PSD and ALDE will go together to consultations and recommend just one person for the office. The candidate will be designated by the two parties' leaderships in meetings in the first part of Monday.

PSD national leader Liviu Dragnea said this time there will be several proposals for the office, with the National Executive Committee and the floor groups to pick the nominee.

"I have talked to several colleagues. There are several versions to be submitted to the National Executive Committee for consideration, not just one. I will put forth several versions," said Dragnea, mentioning that he has four picks, men and women included.

Also today, the PNL leadership will convene to agree on the negotiating delegation and mandate.

PNL national leader Ludovic Orban has said the party will have exploratory talks with any party, except for PSD, to build a parliamentary majority.

"We will have exploratory talks with any partner, except for those who have disregarded Romania. (...) Building a stable and solid majority is extremely hard to do. Very many conditions have to be met and opinions harmonised for a governing programme. Still, we cannot ignore such prospect and not open talks to shape up such a majority," said Orban.

The Save Romania Union (USR) would agree to back up a ruling coalition made up of the Opposition parties, but it will unveil his picks directly to the President, without prior talks with other parties, USD Senator Vlad Alexandrescu said last week.
