Romania's government debt at the end of 2016 Q2 was 269.78 billion lei, or 36.7 percent of the GDP, down 0.5 percentage points from the 267.208 billion lei level, or 37.2 percent of the GDP, in the previous quarter, reveal the data released by Eurostat on Monday.
Compared with 2016 Q1, 13 EU member states registered in Q2 an increase in government debt as share of the GDP, while in 15 member states, Romania included, the debt went down.
The lowest government debt level as share of the GDP in 2016 Q2 was registered in Estonia (9.7pct), Luxembourg (22pct), Bulgaria (29.4%) and Romania (36.7pct), and the highest was in Greece (179.2pct), Italy (135.5pct) and Portugal (131.7pct).
In the European Union, the government debt level went down from 84.5 percent of the GDP in Q1 this year to 84.3 percent of the GDP in 2016 Q2.
In the eurozone, the government debt declined in the period April-June 2016, to 91.2 percent of the GDP, from 91.3 percent of the GDP in 2016 Q1.
