The Romanian Gendarmerie will hold for two years, as a first, the command of the European Gendarmerie Force (EUROGENDFOR or EGF), and the commander's duties will be carried out by a Romanian Gendarme officer, namely Lieutenant Colonel Lucian Gavrila within the Inspectorate General of Romanian Gendarmerie (IGJR).
"Within a festive ceremony, that was carried out at the EUROGENFOR headquarters in Vicenza, Italy, a Romanian Gendarme officer was sworn-in, as a first, as commander of the intervention force," a release of the IGJR sent to agerpres. on Wednesday informs.
The officer was designated to take over this position after he passed an exam, and during his two-year mandate he is to ensure the good functioning of the EUROGENDFOR and achieve the objectives established through the decisions of the member states.
Alongside representatives of all member countries, a delegation of the Romanian Gendarmerie, led by Gendarmerie's Inspector General Marin Andreiana attended the swearing-in ceremony.
Lieutenant Colonel Lucian Gavrila was, between 2011-2013, the Deputy of the Chief of General Staff of the EUROGENDFOR, a position obtained also through an exam, and in 2015 he was the Commander of the Romanian Gendarme Contingent in Afghanistan (NATO mission) and the Adviser of the Chief of General Staff with the Interior Ministry in Afghanistan.
Since 2016 he has been the Operations Service Chief with the IGJR, having previously held the position of Chief of Analysis and Strategic Programmes.
On 18 October 2007, in Velsen, in the Netherlands, the Treaty (Treaty of Velsen - e.n.) among Spain, France, Italy, the Netherlands and Portugal was adopted, establishing the European Gendarmerie Force.
The EUROGENDFOR is a European intervention force with militarised police duties, put at disposal voluntarily by the founding member states, in order to strengthen the capabilities of international crisis management.
