Romanian seaside ready to welcome tourist on May 1 mini-holiday

1 mai, mare

The Romanian seaside is ready to welcome May 1 holidaymakers, although not all tourist facilities are working at capacity, Tourism Minister Mircea Dobre told agerpres, remarking also that the quality of Black Sea coast tourist services has progressively increased from one year to another.

"We met last week with industry representatives and I am sure the Black Sea tourist facilities are ready, not necessarily for the May 1 mini-holiday, because the facilities are not yet operating at full capacity, if we refer to the beach leisure services like beach bars, but overall they are ready for the summer season. The quality of seaside services has increased from one year to another, driven also by the development of international events, and it is clear there's an increase in the quality of tourism services overall, not just on the Black Sea coast," Dobre said.

"As of this year we have charter flights for Israeli citizens, and this shows that there is interest for Romania, as proven by the fact that several weekly flights are being operated, and we are generally interested in attracting Western tourists. I consider that Romania does not compete with Bulgaria, we have other specific packages to offer compared to our neighbors," Dobre explained.

According to data provided by the Seaside - Danube Delta Association, some 7,000 Israeli tourists have visited the Romanian seaside in 2016, with the resorts of Mamaia, Navodari and Eforie attracting the highest numbers of vacationers; for 2017, the number of tourists from Israel could exceed 8,000 against the background of the weekly charter flights' supplementation.

Apart from the Tourism Law that is intended to give the industry a boost, the holiday vouchers that should be granted as of July 1, 2017 and the Master Plan for Tourism Investments that is en route to completion will provide further incentives to this activity sector.
