A woman and three children were killed by the long-distance train running on the Bucharest - Constanta mainline 800, near the Branesti halt station, the Romanian Police General Inspectorate informs. According to the Passenger Railway Company CFR Calatori, the tragedy happened at 9:30, between the Pasarea and Branesti stations. One of the children, who had been flung by the speeding engine on the rails, was found first and subsequently the other three bodies were found behind the train.
Head of the Bucharest - Ilfov Ambulance Service Alis Grasu said that the ambulance got to the site in seven minutes from the call, but all the responders could do was to pronounce all the victims dead: a woman aged 25 to 30, and three children ages 2, 5 and 10. Investigations are underway to identify them and determine the circumstances of the tragedy; a prosecutor of the competent authority also went to the site. Sources close to the investigation said this could be a suicide, as a farewell note was found on the woman, who appears to have been pregnant.
