35 years after its first mission, SMURD is not just an emergency system, but a symbol of solidarity and the power to transform an idea into reality, the Secretary of State in the Ministry of Internal Affairs Raed Arafat said on Thursday.
''Today marks 35 years since the first SMURD intervention, carried out in Targu Mures. It was the beginning of a long journey, strewn with challenges, with moments of joy, but also with painful trials. Above all, this journey meant saving tens of thousands of lives and providing emergency medical assistance and first aid to millions of people. It all started with a dream and a bold idea, undertaken by a handful of people who firmly believed that, when you work for the good of your fellow human beings and have as your goal saving lives, nothing is impossible. The road was arduous, with many sacrifices and continuous struggles, but always with the same belief: that a different, transparent system can be built, without hidden interests and without personal ambitions, dedicated exclusively to people in need," Raed Arafat, the one who initiated this emergency service in Targu Mures, conveyed in a message on Facebook.
Today, SMURD is synonymous with teamwork and solidarity, and doctors, nurses, firefighters-paramedics, pilots, volunteers and all those involved put their knowledge, passion and, often, even their own lives at the service of their fellow people, with selflessness and devotion, says Raed Arafat.
''The path is not over and will never be without challenges. On the contrary, the future will bring new trials, and our duty and that of the young people who follow us is to remain united and involved in order to further develop an integrated, solid system, built for people and in their service. I extend my thanks and my full gratitude to my colleagues who, through their tireless work, make SMURD what we wanted it to be today from the beginning. "I thank all those who have supported and are supporting the development of this system, as well as those who believed in it, even when it seemed like just a dream. 35 years after the first mission, SMURD is not just an emergency system, but a symbol of solidarity, hope and the power to transform an idea into reality," Arafat says in his message.
