Strengthening the Strategic Partnership between Romania and the United States in the field of defence was the main topic discussed on Saturday by the acting minister of defence, Angel Tilvar, with US Senator Chris Murphy.

The meeting took place at the headquarters of the Ministry of National Defence (MApN).

According to the MApN, the discussions focused on strengthening the Strategic Partnership between Romania and the United States in the field of defence, especially in the context of the security challenges in the Black Sea region.

The two officials underscored the importance of close coordination within NATO and of the American military presence in Romania, as an essential element for deterrence and defence in the southeast of the Alliance.

"The partnership with the United States is fundamental for the security of Romania and the entire region. Close operational cooperation, joint training and military capability modernisation projects contribute directly to strengthening our collective defence," said Angel Tilvar, according to a press release sent to AGERPRES.

During the meeting, the two officials highlighted Romania's role as a pillar of stability on NATO's eastern flank, as well as our country's commitment as an active contributor to joint efforts to support regional security.

At the same time, the officials discussed the impact of hybrid threats and disinformation campaigns, as well as the importance of a coordinated response, including in support of partners in the region.

Another topic addressed was cooperation in the field of endowment, with an emphasis on ongoing programmes carried out with the American partner.

Minister Tilvar presented the progress made in the acquisition of major equipment and underlined Romania's firm commitment to modernising the armed forces and increasing the level of interoperability with allies, the same source also shows.
