Honorary Chairman of the National Liberal Party (PNL) Mircea Ionescu Quintus on Monday voiced regret over the death of Queen Anne, saying Anne behaved like a genuine queen and was by King Mihai's side "his entire tumultuous life."

"In the years of my youth, I grew up under a monarchal regime that was so beneficial to our country. I have been and still I am a humble admirer of King Mihai, and I cannot forget that Queen Anne was by his side in all his tumultuous life, she behaved like a genuine queen and I hope she will be an example for the remaining members of the Royal House and for all Romanians who treasure genuine people. May God rest her in peace, and may God give strength to the King to overcome this hard trial!" Quintus told Agerpres.

Queen Anne of Romania, also known by her Romanian name Ana, died on Monday afternoon at the Morges Hospital in Switzerland, aged 92, the Press Office of Romania's King Mihai announced on Monday. "Keeping watch over the queen until her last breath were Their Royal Highnesses Crown Princess Margareta and Prince Radu, Princess Elena, Princess Sofia and Princess Maria. His Majesty King Mihai I kept coming to see the queen in the hospital each day over the last week. One day previously, Queen Anne received the last rites from the priest of the Catholic St. Mary's of Morges Church," the statement says.
