Romania sends record number of athletes to Paralympic Games 2016 in Rio

Twelve Romanian athletes, a record number, will participate in the summer Paralympic Games 2016 in Rio de Janeiro, 7 through 18 September. Cyclist Carol-Eduard Novak, 40 y/o, is Romania's flag-bearer, as he is the first Paralympic champion in our country's history.

The 12 Romanian athletes, accompanied by 6 coaches, will compete in six sports: Florentina Hriscu (discus throw) and Florin Cojoc (high jump), coach Adrian Tamas, will compete in athletics; Mihaela Lulea and Iulian Serban will race in canoe, coached by Gheorghe Toth; Carol-Eduard Novak and Attila Olah in cycling, with Cristiano Valoppi as trainer; Alexandru Bologa in judo (blind), coached by Tamas Gergely; Naomi Ciorap, Samuel Ciorap, Octavian Ilina in swimming, with Daniel Nistoroiu as coach; Dacian Makszin and Bobi Simion in table tennis, coached by Anca Chereches.

Romania's team has participated on Sunday in the welcome ceremony, in the Olympic Village's Square in Rio alongside the teams of Belgium, Poland, Syria and Trinidad-Tobago.
