Romania's first mandate to the Presidency of the Council of the European Union is an opportunity that cannot be missed, the Prime minister Mihai Tudose says, specifying that a faster mobilisation is required for a "successful mandate", a government release sent to AGERPRES informs.

Premier Tudose asked his ministers for this Thursday's government sitting to present the full lists with the persons nominated to be part of the ministerial working groups to preparing Romania's mandate to the Presidency of the Council of EU.

"This first mandate of Romania to the Presidency of the Council of the European Union is an opportunity we cannot allow ourselves to miss, not from the political or administrative point of view or from the country's image viewpoint. The year 2019 seems far, but it is not, so that we should mobilise faster and set up earlier all the details as regards the organisation, the functioning, the logistics, the human resources and the financial allocations necessary to a successful mandate," Tudose asserted.

He demanded that each ministry makes "an objective assessment, on technical and professional criteria only" of the persons who are to be appointed to perform in these working groups, and of the persons sent to their job within the Standing Representation of Romania under the EU, so that "they who will represent Romania in Brussels and will have decision-making attributions regarding the Presidency of the Council of the EU, to face their mission with success."
