The parliamentary committee set up to establish whether the energy and gas prices are the right ones will investigate the activity of the National Energy Regulatory Authority (ANRE) from 2005 until now, as well as of all the factors involved, such as ministers, secretaries of state or company directors, said on Thursday the chairman of the commission, deputy Iulian Iancu.

"We have under analysis this objective: why prices have risen. We will consider all the elements that contribute to the formation of the end-price across all the energy chain, that is how prices were set at producer, how the transport tariff was set, both for electricity and gas, why it has risen in certain percentages, the trend of tariff at distributor, to what extent costs were recognized and how well their recognition was found in the quality of the service. I am referring to continuity, because you have seen that there were many moments of interruption, even in its quality, as such, to the end-consumer," Iancu said.

Asked what measures the committee may take, if deficiencies are found, he replied: "Three measures will be taken: to amend the primary legislation, to request the amendment of the secondary legislation and to submit to the Prosecutor's Office the cases that prove to be criminal." The inquiry committee had a first meeting on Thursday, in which they set out a list of questions and requirements to be followed during the hearings. On Wednesday, Niculae Havrilet, the ANRE president from 2012 until now, says that the hearings in this committee will represent a moment of truth.
