The topical themes on the agenda of the ongoing NATO PA session reflect the role of the Alliance in the current security context characterized by lack of predictability and multiple challenges, Senate Chairman Calin Popescu-Tariceanu said on Friday at the meeting with President of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly Paolo Alli, on the sidelines of the 63rd Annual Session of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly taking place in Bucharest between October 6 - 9, the Senate said in a release to Agerpres.

During the talks, Calin Popescu-Tariceanu expressed satisfaction at Romania's hosting for the third time this important event which brings to the fore the role of parliamentary diplomacy in promoting a strong connection between NATO and the citizens. "The Romanian official also mentioned that the topical subjects on the agenda of the NATO PA autumn session such as stability in the Black Sea region, NATO-EU cooperation, developments in Russia and the Western Balkans, reflect the role of the North Atlantic Alliance in the current security context characterized by lack of predictability and multiple challenges, and that the conclusions drawn from the debates will make relevant contributions to the preparation of the 2018 NATO Summit," the release goes on to say.

At the same time, Calin Popescu-Tariceanu stressed that the national parliaments have the obligation to make sure that the governments have adequate tools at hand to implement decisions that contribute to the safety of the citizens. Also attending the meeting was NATO PA Secretary General David Hobbs.
