Romania wins bronze medal at World Junior Table Tennis Championships 2017

Romania on Tuesday won the bronze medals in the junior boys' and girls' team events of the 2017 ITTF World Junior Table Tennis Championships in Riva del Garda, Italy. 

In the girls' competition, Romania defeated Germany in the quarter-finals, 3-1, after Andreea Dragoman beat Jennie Wolf 3-0 (12-10, 11-4, 11-6) and Adina Diaconu prevailed 3-0 (12-10, 11-4, 13-11) over Franziska Schreiner and 3-0 (12-10, 11-9, 11-8) over Wolf. Tania Plaian was defeated by Sophia Klee 3-0 (11-5, 12-10, 11-8). 

In the semifinals, Romania was defeated by China 3-0, failing to take any set. Diaconu was defeated by Yingsha Sun 3-0 (11-3, 11-6, 11-6), Dragoman lost 0-3 to Manyu Wang (4-11, 18-20, 3-11), and Plaian was defeated by Xunyao Shi 3-0 (11-2, 11-5, 12-10). 

In the boys' competition, Romania defeated the United States 3-2 in the quarterfinals. Cristian Pletea defeated Sharon Alguetti 3-2 (12-10, 11-13, 11-7, 8-11, 12-10), Rares Sipos was defeated by Kanak Jha 3-1 (11-9, 11-13, 11-8, 11-6), Dragos Florin Oprea beat Adar Alguetti 3-1 (6-11, 11-7, 11-8, 11-8), Pletea was overcome by Jha 3-2 (8-11, 11-7, 9-11, 11-5, 14-12), but the decisive point was scored by Sipos, after a 3-2-win (11-3, 10-12, 8- 11, 12-10, 11-6). 

In the semis, Romania was knocked out by China 3-0. Pletea was defeated by Fei Xue 3-0 (11-8, 11-9, 15-13), Sipos lost to Chuqin Wang 0-3 (5-11, 4-11, 3-11), and Oprea was overcome by Haidong Xu 3-1 (9-11, 11-6, 11-6, 11-3). 
The individual events are scheduled to start today.
