Financial assets of non-profit institutions serving households, down 8.7% in 2016

The financial assets held by non-profit institutions serving households registered a total value of 9.4 billion lei at end-2016, down by 8.7% year-on-year, shows a report of the National Bank of Romania (BNR). 

"The value of assets in the cash and deposits category increased by 12.3% in 2016, having reached 5.7 billion lei at end-December, accounting for 60.4% of the total financial assets of the sector. The largest share in the total of such instruments was held, at the end of 2016, by the sub-component of "transferable deposits" by 45.6% and with a stock of 2.6 billion lei, up 30% over the previous year," the BNR informs. 

According to the cited source, the sub-component "other deposits", with a slight increase of 0.6% compared to the same period of the previous year, registered a value of 1.7 billion lei. 

The non-profit institutions serving households are legal entities that serve households by supplying goods and services not available to the market. This institutional sector includes trade unions, professional groups, scientific societies, consumer associations, churches and religious communities, social, recreational, cultural and sports clubs, charities, associations and charitable foundations funded by voluntary transfers (in cash or in kind), from other entities etc.
