Health Minister Florian Bodog attended on Friday in Brussels the meeting of EU healthcare ministers' council, where the officials endorsed the position expressed by the Romanian dignitary regarding the problems created by the parallel export in ensuring access to medicines.

According to a press release of the Health Ministry, Helath Minister Florian Bodoc drew attention to the seriously bad effects that the parallel export of medicines generates.

Moreover, the Romanian dignitary signaled that some medicine companies don't observe the obligation to ensure medicine stocks after notifying their withdrawal from the market, an aspect which creates problems in ensuring continuity of the supply on the market.

"This situation divides Europe's citizens into two categories, those who receive adequate and timely treatments and European citizens who are unable to receive proper treatment. Taking into account this situation, we urgently request the European Commission a mechanism of control and regulation of the parallel export on European level, [mechanism] to ensure public service by companies and regulate situations resulting as a consequence of the withdrawal of some medicines from the market," Florin Bodoc stated in his speech, quoted in the release.
