Romania's Buzarnescu qualifies for quarter-finals of ITF tournament in Midland (US)

Romanian tennis player Mihaela Buzarnescu qualified on Thursday for the quarter-finals of the ITF tournament in Midland (Michigan), with prizes worth 100,000 US dollars, after defeating Swiss Stefanie Voegele, with a score of 1-6, 6-0, 6-2. 

Buzarnescu (aged 29, WTA's 43rd), main seed, defeated Voegele (aged 27, WTA's 178th) in one hour and 31 minutes. 

The Romanian national is to face off in the quarter-finals Swedish Rebecca Peterson (aged 22, WTA's 145th), whom Buzarnescu defeated last year in the quarter-finals in Versmold (Germany, 60,000 US dollars), 6-2, 6-2. 

Irina Bara (aged 22, WTA's 175th) was defeated, 6-2, 6-1, by Canadian Carol Zhao (aged 22, WTA's 143rd), who is to play next week in Cluj Napoca against Romania in the Fed Cup. 

In women's doubles, Buzarnescu and Bara, 2nd seeds, were defeated in the quarter-finals by US pair Sanaz Marand/Whitney Osuigwe, with a score of 6-3, 3-6, 10-6.
