Leader of the Social Democratic Party (PSD) senators Serban Nicolae demanded the resignation of First Vice-President of the European Commission Frans Timmermans for his performance within the debate of the Committee on Civil Liberties of the European Parliament (EP) regarding the situation of Romania.

On Monday evening, Frans Timmermans stated in the European Parliament that all the secret protocols should be disclosed to the public and investigated, but they cannot be used as an excuse to justify the amendments in the legislation that would restrict the fight against corruption.

The European Official reproached the Romanian MEPs of the S&D group that each time the community Executive addresses punctual criticism they accuse an attack over the country and conveyed that such an attitude is a sign of weakness.

He also added that the referendum in Romania regarding the definition of family as a freely consented union between a man and a woman should not be use as an instrument to fuel attitudes such as hatred against sexual minorities.
