The Ministry for Romanians Abroad (MRP) welcomes the Romanians' involvement in the local elections in Belgium, also mentioning in a press statement released on Monday that they, through their presence on the Belgian political stages, honour Romania.

"The presence of Romanians on the Belgian political stages shows us that we have beautiful people, involved, hard-working people who honour us wherever they are. Thus because of a high level of involvement in political life and beyond, we demonstrate that Romania is active everywhere in the world. Moreover, in the elections of October 14, 2018 in the Kingdom of Belgium, we show the contribution and joint effort of our fellow citizens to creating a beautiful image of Romanians and Romania," according to MRP.

As many as 46 Romanians are running on the lists of Belgian parties in the local elections scheduled for October 14 for local councillors including in the capital city of Brussels, with a desire to make as many initiatives as possible for the community they represent.

Nearly 40,000 Romanians, or nine percent of the total population, live in Brussels, and more than 70,000 Romanians living in Belgium overall.
