Melescanu, Neculaescu exchange of opinions with Lesnic on conflict settlement process in Transnistrian region

Foreign Affairs Minister Teodor Melescanu and Cristina Lesnic, Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration of the Republic of Moldova, on Monday exchanged opinions on the developments within the conflict settlement process in the Transnistrian region of the Republic of Moldova, a press release of the Foreign Affairs Ministry (MAE) sent to AGERPRES informs. 

"Minister Teodor Melescanu reiterated Romania's support for the '5+2' format negotiations in view of agreeing upon a solution that would respect the territorial sovereignty and integrity of the Republic of Moldova," reads the release. 

At the same time, the head of the Romanian diplomacy emphasised the importance of continuing the European commitment and the reform process for the democratic and prosperous future of the Republic of Moldova. 

Melescanu reaffirmed Romania's support for the European option and the modernisation and transformation process in the Republic of Moldova, intended to generate direct benefits for the improvement of the life of this country's citizens. 

During her visit to Bucharest, Cristina Lesnic also had a round of consultations with Secretary of State Dan Neculaescu aimed at deepening the dialogue on the stage and perspectives of the conflict settlement process in the Transnistrian region. 

On this occasion, Dan Neculaescu referred to some aspects of interest for Romania, such as the demarches of the Republic of Moldova at the UN level and showed that MAE will continue to grant special importance to developments on the matter. 

Neculaescu highlighted the importance of ensuring a negotiation process that allows for a comprehensive and viable settlement of the Transnistrian file to be reached. The common interest for the continuation of the bilateral consultations on this topic was also underscored, the release further shows.
