Aurel Vainer, the President of Federation of Jewish Communities of Romania (FCER), brought to mind that 9 October 1941 marks the beginning of the deportation of the Jews in Romania to Transnistria.

"We are gathered here this year too at the Holocaust memorial in Romania to commemorate the victims of the Holocaust in our country. (...) We, the Jews, have some values (...) the values of Judaism, an old teaching, of yore (...) These values, that we turn to good account today, are memory and gratitude," Aurel Vainer said.

The president of FCER specified that the representatives of the Jewish community are grateful to the Romanian state for establishing a Holocaust day.

"We are showing our gratitude to these innocent victims, but at the same time we are showing gratitude towards the Romanian authorities for establishing this Holocaust day, who erected this monument in the center of the Capital, forcing us in a way to appeal to our memory and to know that something like this happened in Romania," Vainer also said.
