Nicolae Grigorescu's painting "Tarancuta cu basma alba" (Peasant Girl with White Headscarf) was sold in the Artmark's Autumn Auction for the sum of 350,000 euro on Wednesday night, becoming the artist's best-selling work, according to a press release of the auction house.

The work comes from the collection of magistrate Lazar Munteanu (1869 - 1951), grandson of collector Iancu Kalinderu. Magistrate Lazar Munteanu was one of the most important collectors of the period between the two world wars. He was president of the Constanta Court, secretary general of the Justice Department and Judge at the Court of Cassation.

Grigorescu remains the best-selling Romanian artist, after setting another record of the art market in December 2016 with the painting "Tarancute de la fantana" (Peasant Girls at the Fountain), sold for 320,000 euro.

The Artmark's Autumn Auction saw total sales of 1,632,850 euros, with a sale rate of 81pct.
