Our heroes represent a life lesson, a part of history, a brick that laid at the foundation of Great Romania, Deputy PM Ana Birchall said in a message sent on Veterans Day on Sunday.

"Mainly due to the sacrifice of the Romanian soldiers who fought and died in WWI, at less than one month from the official conclusion of the war, the Greater Union of 1918 was possible, a defining act for the formation of modern Romania. So much more, this year, when we celebrate the Greater Union Centennial, we must make known, commemorate and value the sacrifice of the veterans, whom we owe the freedoms and rights we enjoy today. Our heroes, each, represent a life lesson, a part of history, a brick that laid at the foundation of Great Romania," Ana Birchall says in her message.

The Deputy PM mentions that Veternas Day, more than any other day, reminds her with affection and gratitude of her grandfather Gheorghe who fought the bloody battle of Stalingrad, whom she learned from what patriotism and the true history of Romania means.

"Not just today, but every day we should thank all war veterans and I want to convey them our high appreciation for the admirable manner and for the limitless courage they proved, placing themselves to the service of the country. Our Romania of today wouldn't have existed without their dedication! Many happy returns to all war veterans!," Birchall also said.
