Romania's Prime Minister Viorica Dancila has said that she will take the necessary steps to bring Romania into the Eurozone in 2024.

"Romania has committed itself to joining the Eurozone once it fulfills all of the conditions, and recently we have set a clear time horizon for this goal: 2024. In my turn, I pledge to take the necessary steps to lead my country in that direction," Dancila said in Brussels on Tuesday in Brussels, at a debate on the future of the European Union called " Cores and Peripheries in Europe? A Europe NEXT Project," organised by the Aspen Romania Institute at the Permanent Representation of Romania with the EU.

She added that Romania "has never hesitated to openly consider any initiative aimed at deepening European co-operation."

"At the same time, we expect every initiative to openly look at Romania. We have the moral authority to address this issue, all the more so as Romania's efforts to join the Schengen Area have not received a response for nearly 10 years. However, we are successfully providing security to an extended portion of the European Union by actively contributing to the process of strengthening security tools at European level," Dancila said.

Next item on the prime minister's schedule in Brussels is a meeting with Romanian MEPs at the headquarters of the Representation.

On Wednesday, Dancila and members of the Romanian government will attend a joint meeting of the Romanian Government and the European Commission.
