Iohannis discusses with Tusk, Sipila on cooperation initiatives to ready Sibiu Summit, EU Strategic Agenda

AGERPRES special correspondent Madalina Cerban reports: President Klaus Iohannis discussed on Thursday in Brussels with President of the European Council Donald Tusk and Finnish Prime Minister Juha Sipila about the cooperation initiatives for the preparation of the Summit in Sibiu and of the future EU Strategic Agenda for the period 2020-2024.

According to the Presidential Administration, Iohannis' meeting with Tusk and Sipila took place on the sidelines of the European Council in Brussels.

Finland will take over the EU Council presidency from Romania in the second half of 2019.

"Cooperation initiatives in view of preparing the Summit in Sibiu and the future Strategic Agenda of the Union for the period 2020 - 2024 were the topics of discussion addressed at the meeting," a press release of the Presidential Administration informs.

In view of the Informal EU Summit in Sibiu on 9 May, 2019, President Klaus Iohannis "reaffirmed our country's commitment to working closely with the President of the European Council to prepare this key moment, symbolic both for the upcoming presidency of Romania to the EU Council, as well as for the European Union in its entirety," the Presidential Administration informs.

According to the quoted source, the discussion also highlighted the very close cooperation in preparing the Program of the Presidency Trio of the Council of the European Union - Romania, Finland, Croatia.

"In the coming period, our country will actively get involved, as the first Presidency of the Trio, in pursuing the common goals agreed by the three states to advance the European agenda," the quoted source underscores.

In this context, on Friday morning in Brussels, President Iohannis is due to have a meeting with the prime ministers of Finland and Croatia.
