Romania's Prosecutor General Augustin Lazar underscored the importance of developing a network of specialists in the area of intellectual property of each EU member state, within a specialist meeting organized in Bucharest in the context of Romania holding the Presidency at the Council of the European Union.
The meeting was organised by the European Observatory on Infringements of Intellectual Property Rights.
"Within the speech delivered, the Prosecutor General commended the importance of the Observatory activities for endorsing and financing, in the member states, the authorities combating counterfeiting and piracy, in accordance with the principles of good knowledge of the contribution that intellectual property rights bring to the economic growth of each member state, and of the threats and damages caused by the infringement of intellectual property rights. Moreover, he underscored the importance of developing networks of specialists in the area of each member state, at the level of intellectual property offices and also among judges, prosecutors and police officers," a press release of the Prosecutor's Office attached to the High Court of Cassation and Justice (PICCJ) sent to AGERPRES on Tuesday informs.
The meeting was also attended by experts of all the EU member states, representatives of the European Commission, as well as observers within some European institutions and international organisations - Europol, the World Intellectual Property Organisation.
