AGERPRES special correspondent Loredana Ciobanu reports: Research ministers from EU member states on Tuesday meet in Brussels, for the Competitiveness Council (COMPET) meeting, to be presided by Romanian Research Minister Nicolae Hurduc.

The Romanian official said in the opening of the meeting that Research "is the main engine of society development" and underscored this field is going good and all the EU citizens will have to gain from this.

"I didn't choose French randomly to make this statements, for I want to send two messages. French is, and everybody knows this, the language of love and the nucleus of our presidency [of the Council of the European Union - editor's note] is cohesion. So that I've chosen French because I want to stress the Romanian presidency must be focused on the unity problems facing the European Union, problems related to communication and cohesion, for this is how we can get the most important research programme that we have - "Horizon in Europe" advance faster. This is a generous programme of the European Union, which brings together researchers, representatives of the universities, of the industry and all the citizens of the European Union, for research is the main driver of society development and if research does well than all the EU citizens will have to gain," said Minister Nicolar Hurduc.

He voiced hope that all the European ministers of research understood that they must agree with the important problems of the "Horizon in Europe" programme, in order to be able to finalize as quick as possible the file that offers the legislative framework and necessary financial means for implementing the researchers' ideas.
