Chairman of the National Liberal Party (PNL) Ludovic Orban announced on Monday that he was appointed as the Liberals' campaign manager in the presidential elections.

"Our goal is to win the presidential elections. In terms of the appointment of the campaign manager, it's not a surprise to anybody, it's clear that the PNL chairman is the one who should lead this campaign," Orban stated at the end of the PNL's National Political Bureau meeting.

He was asked whether Vasile Blaga, former campaign manager for the 2014 presidential elections, will be included in the team.

"I received a mandate from the National Political Bureau to form the campaign team. When I establish the campaign team, I will present it to the public. I will certainly call on my colleagues Raluca Turcan, Florin Citu, Rares Bogdan, people who have great experience in electoral campaigns, people who can effectively contribute to a successful electoral campaign. (...) At that time, [Vasile Blaga] was in the Christian-Liberal Alliance, he was one of the two chairmen. Klaus Iohannis was the PNL chairman and Vasile Blaga the PDL [the Democratic Liberal Party] chairman and normally, they took on the responsibility of leading the campaign in 2014," Ludovic Orban responded.
