Save Romania Union (USR) Chairman Dan Barna said on Thursday that vaccination is a right to life for every child and that he supports mandatory vaccination.

"The principle [of mandatory vaccination] is correct and I support it, we'll see if various circumstantial adjustments are necessary, but the basic principle is this - I think that vaccination is a right to life for all the children and this goes beyond the possible misgivings one parent or another might have. We should use what has already been medically confirmed and proven, we must come out of the logic of medieval principles claiming that the Holy Spirit protects us. The faith component is very good, but we must use the medical part at its state-of the art stage," Barna said at the Palace of Parliament when asked if he would agree to vaccination being made mandatory.

He added that he will check on the status of the vaccination bill which the Social Democrats said they want to be adopted in the ordinary parliamentary session beginning in February.

"We'll see what the status of the bill is. It's clear that the theme has been activated now, amid the alarming news coming from Asia. It is obviously an important topic. Vaccination is currently the solution that modern and civilized medicine has to protect us against many of the major existing afflictions. It is a theme we support. After we see what stage the bill has reached, we will decide accordingly," Barna said.

The USR Chairman participates on Thursday evening in the New Year's reception organized by the Romanian - German Chamber of Commerce at the Palace of the Parliament, an event Prime Minister Ludovic Orban is also attending.
