Official statistics: Job vacancies increase to 38,400 in Q1

Job vacancies in Q1 2021 stood at 38,400, by 2,800 more than in the year-ago period, according to data released on Wednesday by the National Institute of Statistics (INS).

The job vacancy rate in Q1 was 0.79 percent, up 0.06 percentage points from the previous quarter and 0.05 percentage points less YoY, as the the number of vacancies was by 3,400 less than in the prior year period.

According to the INS, the job vacancy rate was highest in public administration (2 percent), entertainment, cultural and leisure activities (1.6 percent), health and social assistance (1.55 percent).

The manufacturing industry provided for more than one fifth of the total number of vacancies (8,300), with a vacancy rate of 0.76 percent.

The public sector accounted for slightly less than one third of the total number of job vacancies, most of which being in health and social assistance - 5,600, public administration - 5,500 and education - 1,000.

At the opposite end, the sectors with the lowest vacancy rate were the extractive industry and support services (0.09 percent each), and the hospitality industry (0.19 percent). Also, job vacancies were the fewest in the extractive industry and support services (400 each), and in real estate transactions (500), reports agerpres.
