Exhibition to take place at the Parliament Palace to mark the 200th anniversary of the Hellenic Republic

The Standing Bureau of the Chamber of Deputies on Wednesday approved a request of the President of the Hellenic Union of Romania, Deputy Dragos Gabriel Zisopol, to organise an exhibition, between June 23 and July 23, to mark the 200th anniversary since the beginning of the Greeks' struggle for freedom and independence from the Ottoman Empire, which led to the creation of the Hellenic Republic in 1830.

The event will be attended by personalities from the cultural, scientific, economic and political fields, from the country and from abroad.

The exhibition will include 30 portraits of illustrious Greeks, who left their mark in Romania, from antiquity to the twentieth century. It is about 30 Greeks who excelled in the fields of politics, commerce, theology, legal sciences, medicine, literature, history, architecture, music, acting, etc., as the document approved by the Standing Bureau of the Chamber of Deputies states.

The Hellenic Union of Romania, the Cultural Association of Greeks of Romania "NOSTOS," the Department of Neo-Greek Studies of the University of Bucharest, the Greek Cultural Foundation, the Greek School "ATHENS" in Bucharest, the Association of Friends of the Greek Church in Bucharest, the Cultural Association "Protagoras," the Greek-Romanian Bilateral Chamber of Commerce and the Bureau of the Hellenic Tourism Organization have joined forces to present a joint project, under the auspices of the Embassy of the Hellenic Republic in Romania, the source reads.

According to the same source, the opening of the event, to be hosted by Parliament, will take place on Wednesday, June 23, or Thursday, June 24, depending on the availability of the Speaker of the Chamber of Deputies, Ludovic Orban, and the Ambassador of the Hellenic Republic to Romania, Sofia Grammata, reports agerpres.
