Romania has more than 300 active outbreaks of African swine fever in 29 counties

Romania currently has 300 active outbreaks of African swine fever in 29 counties, 11 less than the previous week, according to data published by the National Sanitary Veterinary and Food Safety Authority (ANSVSA) .

Out of the total active outbreaks, seven were recorded in commercial holdings and one in type A commercial holdings. A total of 140,163 pigs were affected in active outbreaks, agerpres.ro confirms.

Also, between May 14 and May 20, 12 new outbreaks of African swine fever were recorded, two in Buzau and Valcea counties and one each in Bihor, Iasi, Maramures, Satu Mare, Salaj, Sibiu, Timis and Vaslui counties. Another 22 outbreaks were extinguished during the mentioned period, most of them in Mures (6) and Olt (4) counties.

According to the Authority, since the first report of the presence of the African swine fever virus in Romania, on July 31, 2017, and until now, 5,679 cases have been diagnosed in wild boars, in 41 counties. In accordance with European provisions, cases in wild boars are extinguished at least 2 years after their appearance.
