National Committee on the Coordination of COVID-19 Vaccination Activities (CNCAV) head Valeriu Gheorghita said on Tuesday that almost 70 percent of those vaccinated over the past month are active persons, under the age of 60, pointing out that October 4 - 31 over 1.4 million people showed up for vaccination for the first time.

"Over the past four weeks there was a progressive increase in people's addressability to the vaccination centres. In fact, from October 4 to October 31 there were over 1.4 million persons who got the vaccine (...), persons who showed up for vaccination for the first time. Over the past week, there were 575,000 vaccinated persons, new persons, as against the previous week, when there were about 450,000 persons," Valeriu Gheorghita told a press conference at Victoria Governmental Palace.

According to the analysis of the age groups, approximately 40 percent of those vaccinated over the past month are persons aged under 40.

"Approximately 38% are persons from the 40-59 age group, and the rest of 22% are persons over 60. Actually, almost 70% of the persons vaccinated over the past month are active persons, under 60. Which is very well in terms of infection transmission and spreading, however, looking at the over 60 age group, this is a relatively low percentage, taking into account that an advanced age represents a serious risk factor for an unfavourable evolution of the SARS-CoV-2 infection," Valeriu Gheorghita explained, Agerpres informs.
