Romanians might get tested for COVID-19 for free by their family physicians as the Ministry of Health (MS) will increase the testing resources by developing outpatient services.

According to an MS press statement, on Friday a first meeting took place between Health Minister Alexandru Rafila and officials of professional organisations of family physicians to identify the solutions of testing by primary medicine offices.

"One of the main urgencies at the moment is to develop the family physician's ability to test for COVID-19 potentially infected patients, outpatient examination, and outpatient treatment for such patients. It was a discussion that outlined a quick solution to the problem," Rafila is quoted as saying at the end of the meeting.

The meeting decided that moving forward, the public health directorates should assess the possibilities of testing at the level of family doctors' offices and agreed that test packages should be provided paid for with public funds, so that testing at family physician's offices be free for the public.
