Coordinator of the COVID-19 national vaccination campaign Valeriu Gheorghita said on Thursday that at the moment there are still no data to justify a fourth dose of the COVID-19 vaccines, and that even under the first schedule current vaccines provide protection against severe forms of the disease, including Omicron.
"At present, we do not have all the available data to justify the administration of a fourth dose. The booster provides long-term protection, because we know that immunity against Omicron is lost faster than what we knew for the Delta variant," Gheorghita told a news conference.
The military doctor mentioned that "we all have exposure to the disease every day, given the extremely high transmissibility of the Omicron variant and the interaction with other people."
"The final result of the infection will be different for a vaccinated person than for an unvaccinated one. The vaccine protects us against severe forms," said Gheorghita, Agerpres informs.
