The chairman of the National Liberal Party (PNL), Florin Citu, stated, that the party will go in government in 2024 with those with whom they will be able to form a majority, on the condition the Liberal electorate is not betrayed.

"So long as PNL does not betray its electorate and PNL and the PNL representatives in government will militate for private property, for entrepreneurs, for all that means free trade, market economy and so forth, we will go in government with those with whom we will be able to form a majority in 2024," said Citu, at the Parliament Palace, when asked if the Liberals want to continue the same formula after the next parliamentary elections.

In what regards the desire of the chairman of the Social Democratic Party (PSD), Marcel Ciolacu, to continue the alliance with the Liberals following the next elections, Citu mentioned that could happen "only with PNL as number one", adding that the objective is to become the largest party in Romania.

"Only with PNL as number one. We will have elections in 2024, I want us to win them. PNL - and I told my colleagues in the Congress - must become the largest party in Romania. (...) And we have our objectives, firstly, to be the largest party in Romania and then be in government for eight years," Florin Citu emphasized.

According to the Liberal leader, the main objective of the current governing coalition is to do good for Romanians, and disagreements regarding the way in which measures are implemented are bound to exist, yet, ultimately, the best compromise solution will be found, Agerpres.ro informs.

"The objectives of the Liberals and the PNL are some, we see there are discussions on the budget, there is still no 7% allotted to investment in the budget - a compromise that the PNL made. We did not leave the table, we said how much it should have been in the governing program, we were promised there will be in the revision, so we can discuss. The main objective is to do good for Romanians. Disagreements in what regards the way in which we implement measures will exist, but ultimately we will find the best compromise solution and we will see what that is each time," said Citu, when asked if the current coalition can withstand, given the discontent expressed by both the PNL and the PSD.
