Romania is looking at every single possibility regarding gas supply, and Azerbaijan certainly is a source and a supply route with natural gas, the Minister of Energy, Virgil Popescu, said on Monday, during a press briefing in Government.

"During the visit and joint government session with the Greek Government, we discussed about the interconnector between Greece and Bulgaria to operationalise the vertical corridor, in order to have access to gas from Azerbaijan on the Vertical Corridor and the LNG terminals from Greece and LNG terminals from Turkey, because diversifying supply sources is a priority for Romania and Europe. So yes, we are looking at every possibility of supplying Romania with gas," Virgil Popescu said, asked about talks in Azerbaijan.

He explained that through Bosphorus, because of the Montreux convention, ships of a certain size cannot enter the Black Sea, which will allow bring LNG into the Constanta port and because of this the interconnector between Greece and Bulgaria was put into discussion, so that Greek terminals can have access to it.

Furthermore, the Minister of Energy said that the gas transit from the Yamal pipeline has not been ceased.

Virgil Popescu highlighted in context that Romania is the second largest natural gas producer in Europe and does not believe that this is not the time to talk about "apocalyptic" scenarios, so that there is no discussion about not having natural gas resources.
